Relationships are like wine

In the beginning, the relationship is fun and bubbly just like Champagne. It’s exciting and you feel like celebrating all the time. Every moment is like a perfect pairing. At times you can’t get enough of the fizz. You feel like this is the best Champagne you’ve ever tasted and you never want to drink anything else.

After awhile, even though Champagne has been fun, you’re ready for something a little more serious. You start to enjoy Chardonnay. It’s light and refreshing, but a bit more substantial. It still pairs perfectly with many things, but sometimes you just want to enjoy it on its own.

At some point the relationship deepens and you’re drinking Merlot which is comforting and smooth. It’s like coming home to an old friend every time you take a sip. As fun as Champagne was, you’re now into something a little more mature and fulfilling.

Then there comes a time when you’re still madly in love with Merlot but you feel like you might need some pizzazz in your life. Bring on the dessert wines like Port, Sherry, Ice Wine and even Grappa. You feel like you could drink these forever. They’re comfortable but with an edge. And even though you’ve come a long way from the Champagne, the bubbles will always be popping!

Valentines Day is not just about chocolates and flowers. It’s about choosing which wine you really want to be drinking!

Happy Cupid Day, watch out for flying arrows (unless you want to be shot!)

Cheers.

HOT TIP

If you have a hot date – or a hot relationship -- and you want a hot gift, let me recommend Real Women Eat Chiles by Jane Butel. This is an awesome book full of kicked up recipes. If you buy it now, you can take advantage of a Valentine’s Day special offer and receive 25 free bonus gifts. The best one, of course, is Hot Chiles – Cool Wine, a wine pairing book from Let’s Talk About Wine! Details.
