Jug-O -Wine

I admit that by managing a great restaurant, I get to try some pretty incredible wines. Some I can’t pronounce, but I never pass on tasting new ones. The more wines I try; the more wines I realize I like. And sometimes I can be a little quick to judge.

Here’s a new one that shocked me!

I recently ate at The Counter restaurant in Santa Monica. This is a favorite of LA celebrities and, according to Oprah, the place to get one of the 10 best hamburgers in the US. Naturally, I looked over the wine list to find the best wine match for my highly anticipated burger. A reasonably priced bottle of Zinfandel caught my eye; and since I was paying, I figured this was the way to go.

What arrived at my table made my jaw drop to the ground - a big ole Jug-o-Wine. Honestly, I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or be embarrassed. I went with the laughing.

The server ever so elegantly unscrewed the top, grabbed the jug by the handle and poured a taste for me. To my surprise - I really enjoyed it. It was very fruity and smooth. It complimented the crazy good burger perfectly! My dinner companion was very impressed and requested the empty jug to use as a flower vase. (hey we recommend wine tips not design tips!)

I dare you to try it! Three Thieves, 2003 Zinfandel, Napa CA. Their website is just as entertaining as the wine.
