No tricks -- just treats!

Get out your pumpkins and put up the fake spider webs, it’s Halloween! Most people think of costumes and candy as the basis of this holiday. I see it more as an opportunity to enjoy different wines. Let me enlighten you.

Candy, especially chocolate, goes very well with certain types of wine. Although port (a sweet, fortified wine from the Douro Valley in Northern Portugal) is the most classic wine to pair with chocolate, it’s not the only way to go.

Red wine drinkers can grab a handful of M&M’s, a snickers bar or perhaps a Hershey kiss (everyone needs a good kiss every now and then) and pour a glass of your favorite zinfandel, merlot, or even a big strong pinot noir. Now close your eyes, swallow and have a whole new appreciation for this holiday.

For my white wine friends - grab some candy corn, white chocolate or anything made with French vanilla along with your favorite Chardonnay or champagne.

If you’d prefer not to waste calories on candy but want something spooky to drink, have no fear. There’s always Vampire Wine direct from Transylvania. The winemaker states “Vampire Wines continues to ignite the nocturnal passions”.

Halloween isn’t just for kids, so dress up, get out there and trick-or- treat. Or buy way too much candy for the little ones and do some “witch brewing” of your own.

Cheers!

Lynne
