Freedom Party!
Not only is it the last Friday of the month, which means my famous happy hour recipe, it's Memorial weekend - whoo hoo! So put out your flags, dust off the BBQ, pull out the picnic basket and start enjoying your long weekend. I will be party-hopping for the next three days and recommend you do the same with these delicious wines. They are the perfect Memorial Day weekend accessory for any menu from hot dogs to haute cusine.
Drink this:
Wild Bunch, California Red Wine
This is a fun affordable California Red Wine blend. With 69% Zinfandel, 25% Syrah and a mere 6% Barbera you end up with a wonderfully smooth and fruity glass of vino. It has characteristics of strawberries, raspberries, cassis and cinnamon. It's perfect for all things BBQ and is great for a picnic as the twist top could not be easier to open.
Retail $10 at Costco
2006 Justin Sauvignon Blanc, Paso Robles CA
This is the most refreshing wine I have tasted, so put down the Gatorade and enjoy this amazing wine. Your taste buds will be delighted with the essence of kiwi, lemon and pineapple. This clean crisp wine is perfect for shellfish, light summer fare and of course BBQ and picnics.
Retail $14 - widely available
Serve this:
White Trash Dogs
1 package Vienna sausages
1 package of pop up crescent rolls
Pop open crescent rolls and wrap each weenie in crescent dough. Place the wrapped weenies on greased baking sheet and bake at 375 for 15 minutes. Dipping sauces can include: mustard, ketchup, relish or anything you like on a dog. This will be a hit at any happy hour or backyard BBQ.
Happy Memorial Day!
BTW, the refreshing Justin Sauvignon Blanc will be one of the feature wines at Woof & Wine June 8. Have you got your ticket yet?
