Sangria!

My goal is to help each and every one of you learn about and have fun with wine. That entails a lot of daily research! It's a hard job, but somehow I manage through it. After all, you're all worth it.

In my challenging "research", I came across many different recipes for Sangria. So, of course I had to try them all. I realized that I absolutely love Sangria. Who knew? I had always been hesitant to drink Sangria because I don't really like sweet wine. Imagine my surprise when I learned that not all Sangria's are sweet. Some are just plain tasty and refreshing.

Sangria comes from Spain and is considered a wine punch. But don't let the punch part scare you - it's a great way to get your wine & fruit together. Sangria means blood, but there are some great white wine Sangria's out there too. And more good news, Sangria pairs with a ton of foods from picnic items, cured meats & cheeses to desserts. So what are you waiting for? Try some Sangria this weekend.

White Wine Sangria
1 Bottle of chilled white wine (Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, or Sauvignon Blanc)
3 oranges (sliced)
1 lemon (sliced)
1 lime (sliced)
1/2 liter or club soda

Rose Sangria (my new favorite summer wine)
1 bottle of chilled Rose Wine
1 lemon sliced
1 orange sliced
2 cups club soda, chilled
1 kiwifriut, sliced
1/2 cup fresh blackberries or raspberries
8 dark sweet cherries, pitted
8 fresh strawberries

Directions:
Pour wine and club soda in a pitcher. Squeeze the juice of the orange and lemon into the mix and toss them in with all the other fruit and stir. Serve in a glass with ice and make sure to get some fruit in there.

These are just suggestions, be creative and throw in some blueberries or peaches and even some brandy if you're feeling a little crazy! You can't go wrong with Sangria this summer.

Cheers!
